On Sunday the Oxford Saints travelled to take on the Bury Saints American Football Team in a preseason friendly.

Although a scoreline of 75-8 in the hosts favour, Oxford purposely chose last years division champions as we wanted to give our players a stern test and show them the quality of play they need to aspire to.

With players in new positions and rookies getting their first time on the field, the game gave the coaches the opportunity to experiment and see how the 2016 squad performs against a challenging opponent.

With 60 players selected to travel for the first preseason game, several rookies made an impact with rookie lineman Richard Pearson putting in great work in his first game. Rookie wide receiver Charlie Day also got field time in his first game, reeling in a pass for a 2 point conversion in the 2nd half.

Bury Saints played tremendous hosts and showed their talent right from kickoff. Led by a former London Blitz QB with an explosive offense, including some American talent filling their ranks, we expect the Bury Saints to be a formidable force in Division 1 for 2016 and we wish them the best of luck.

Evaluation of the game film has already commenced and training this Sunday will build on what was learned.

On 6th April, the team is on the road again for their 2nd preseason game against another experienced opponent, the Birmingham Bulls. This will be another excellent opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate players against a tough opponent as we prepare for our season opener against the Cornish Sharks on 10th April at Tilsley Park, Abingdon.
