Tough day at the office for rusty Saints.

Tough day at the office for rusty Saints.

The Oxford Saints come away from a tough pre-season friendly against Hampshire Thrashers with a draw.

With the start of the 2008 BAFL 1 season edging ever closer, the Oxford Saints played a tune up game against BAFL 2 outfit, Hampshire Thrashers.

The Saints always new this would be a tough and bruiding match up and this proved to be the case.

Equipped with returning vets such as Andrew 'Snake' Day and Clive Russell, an array of rookies and new signings including former London Olympians TE Jay Taylor, the Oxford Saints set to work.

The first half proved to be two quarters dominated by the defenses with the score deadlocked at 0-0.

The Thrashers were the first to strike in the second half with a touchdown and 2 point conversion following a good build up, taking the score to 8-0.

The Saints struck back in good time with a long rumbling run from RB Chris Taylor. The PAT was missed, the score now 8-6.

The stingy Saints 'D' was in no mood to conceed another TD on the next series which resulted in a safety against the Thrashers, evening the scores at 8-8.

The Saints struck another blow not long after with a slanted pass completion between QB Jay Taylor and WR Marvin Reyes. The 2 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, taking the score to 8-14 Saints.

The Oxford Saints were always going to struggle to keep hold of the lead, with numerous missed tackles allowing the Thrashers to progress up the field towards the end zone.

The Thrashers finished the drive with a touchdown, making the score 14-14. Unfortunately, after some overly exuberant touchdown celebrations from the Thrashers scorer, the officials imposed a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct foul which lead to the 2 point conversion attempt failing.

The score finished on 14-14. The Saints have some rebuilding work to do before the BAFL 1 season opener at Norwich Devils on the 13th April 2008.
