Former Olympian signs with Saints

Former London Olympians player and coach Matt Coppinger has signed with the Oxford Saints. Coppinger will feature as Offensive Co-ordinator on the Saints coaching staff bringing his experience of Premiership football to the team.

Coach CoppingerCoppinger won 3 Premiership National Championships as a player and coach with the Olympians over a 5 year stint with the perenial BAFL champions. Matt spent 9 seasons as a BAFL player featuring at RB for the Southend Sabres, Southern Sundevils and London Olympians.

He also won 3 National Championships as a coach with the Hertfordshire Hurricanes at University level. Most recently Matt was the HC at Greenwich University turning them around from a 1-7 record to divisional champions and playoff contenders.

"I was really impressed with the mix of talent at the Saints. We have great veterans like Gavin Collins, Stuart Cribbes, Jay Taylor, Chris Taylor, Pete Cleaver with NFLE and Premiership experience." Stated Coppinger. "We also have some superb young talent and plenty of university players that provide a bright future for the team."

Coaching the Olympians"It's going to be a competitive year and I'm looking forward to a wide open competition for starting spots on our roster. We'll be bringing a level of professionalism to the coaching at the Saints, so I expect players will find practice both challenging and fun."

Coppinger assisted as an offensive consultant partway through last year helping to take the team to an 8-2 record.

If any players or coaches are interested in being part of the Saints offense this year they should contact Coppinger at coaching@oxfordsaints.com.
