2017 Preseason Confirmed

Following the championship-winning season in 2016, Oxford Head Coach Andrew Day has arranged two tough contests for his team.

These preseason games will be played in preparation for the Division 1 regular season, with the schedule yet to be confirmed.

19th MARCH

First up, the Saints will be travelling to the Farnham Knights, who are a competitive team in the Premier division, the UK’s top tier. It’s been a few years since the two sides met so this will prove a good opportunity for Andrew Day to see his side in action against a top team.

Oxford last met Farnham in the 2013 season when the league was split into just 2 divisions, Premier and National. Competing in the National Division, the Saints took a 26-2 loss against the Knights at home but also claimed a narrow 8-6 victory on the road.

Adding to the preseason schedule is a home game against the Leicester Falcons on 2nd April at Tilsley Park. The Saints and the Falcons are familiar opponents who have played each other many times, last meeting in the 2014 regular season.

The Saints won both games, beating the Falcons 14-0 on the road and then a 34-20 victory in the home re-match to finish the year, falling narrowly short of a playoff spot.

The Saints and the Falcons both stormed through the 2016 regular season in Division 2, with Oxford being crowned Southern Champions and Leicester claiming the Northern title.

With both teams now promoted to Division 1, this match up is going to be a great game. Some are already calling it an unofficial decider of the true Division 2 champion, but as a preseason game the focus will be on preparing the team for the regular season.
